This quilt is sewn together in remembrance and in honor of BIPOC and trans women. It is in remembrance of women who were taken from us too soon...murdered....disappeared.... And it is sewn in recognition of the many BIPOC and trans women leaders, role models, and mentors. Though I am not a seamstress, I chose to create a quilt because of the quilt's strong traditional history as a source of community for women. The tree represents the strength of women, what you see and what is underneath. Each tree is adorned with a mirror for the viewer to engage with. Each pocket contains a antique handkerchief with the names of women handwritten upon it... women to be remembered, cherished and mourned as well as women to be remembered, cherished, and followed.
